The
ST series synchronous generators are designed to serve as
power generating units of small capacity that supply
electricity for marine or domestic lighting and appliances.
The make
of the generator is of drip-proof type. Harmonic excitation is
employed. The behaviour of
self-excitation and constant voltage can be achieved
without an automatic voltage regulator and hence, it's simple
and reliable operation.
The
generator of this series are designed for continuous duty.
They will generate, relatively to its speed, a single-phase
current of any frequency and voltage, i.e. 50 or 60Hz and
230 or 115v, according to the requirements of the consumer.
For this purpose it will simply do to refix the two
connection straps in the terminal box.
The
generator may be connected to the prime mover either directly or
by means of a belt. With a 4-pole generator, a speed of 1500
r/min is equivalent to 50Hz, one of 1800 r/min to 60Hz. In the
case of a 2-pole generator, a speed of 3000 r/min makes 50hz,
while one at 3600 r/min produces 60Hz.
The ST
alternator is a tried and tested design, built solidly with
copious amounts of cast iron and copper. These are rated for
continuous operation at full rated output as a prime power
source, unlike common portable generators with light windings
and aluminium housings. Repairs
can be easily be carried out by yourself. Both bearings are
standard off the shelf items and the rectifier can easily be
replaced with a suitable unit from any electronics supplier |
